Kalavapriikki joins Agri-Food Cluster North Savo

Collaboration and innovating new solutions are in the company’s DNA

Kalavapriikki’s products are crafted with respect for tradition while utilizing modern technology at a state-of-the-art production facility in Kuopio. The lake fish is sourced from local inland fishermen within a 200 km radius of Kuopio. “We also have primary production, meaning fish farming. In 2022, we took action to secure the availability of domestic raw materials and acquired a stake in Kalankasvatus Vääräniemi Oy. This collaboration ensures a steady flow of raw materials and guarantees responsibly produced, fresh fish products for the delight of consumers and retailers,” says Ari Hietanen, Kalavapriikki’s Product Development and Quality Manager.

The company’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality across the entire supply chain by 2035. Reaching this target requires close collaboration throughout the value chain, continuous innovation, and leading by example as an advocate for Finnish fish. Unique partnerships and new solutions that reduce the carbon footprint of production have already materialized into delicious products enjoyed by consumers and foodservice customers alike. One example is a pulled rainbow trout product, made from side streams of domestic trout filleting – perfect for both professional and home kitchens. Kalavapriikki was also the first in the world to introduce rainbow trout products raised on insect protein to the market.
